he's The Man everybody counts on this RFL season : the person you'd go bugging every week. ever so faithful with the video camera, while at the same time playing for his team COPA COBANA, Shazli Shahrom reveals to 1on1 his way of juggling both the ball and the camera.

1on1: firstly, can tell us a bit about your team?
Shazli: team futsal kami ialah COPA COBANA...kaler rasmi team kaler biru. ade 6 org ahli sekarang.. yg best psl team ni...team ni kekal tetapi ahlinye berubah2
1on1: hoho...boleh citer skit knape berubah2? internal conflicts perhaps? (jeng jeng jeng)
Shazli: soklan cepu emas nih..erm, maybe sebab masing2 mencari kelainan
1on1: haha...reporter mmg suka tanye soalan cepumas. so is that a good thing? player berubah2?

Shazli: its not about good or not...as long as we enjoy playing our football n have fun...then,its OK

history flash: Copa Cobana before they were known as Copa Cobana. apparently their team was previously called "SURTI", a word which according to Shazli, comes from a song.

1on1: what's your experience in football/futsal?
Shazli: ade perbezaan maen futsal n football (bola padang)..kalo maen football tu,dari skolah rendah lg dah maen...peringkat paling tggi..time wakil RMC (sekolah menengah)..kalo futsal tu...time lepas SPM baru kenal futsal..maen gitu2 je

1on1: what makes a good football/futsal player?
Shazli: hmmm...IMHO i think you should understand each other as a team collectively and not individually..other than dat, teamwork is also very important

1on1: speaking of teamwork, td u mentioned that player copa slalu berubah2 kan..so do u think that if players x tukar2... copa would've done better in the league?
Shazli: nice one....it doesn't depend on who da player is...copa will succeed no matter what..u can change the whole team, but at the end of the day the more important thing is the commitment of each player..hence, copa will become much better..iALLAH

1on1: wut do u think of this season? up to expectation tak?
shazli: honestly, i think dis season is great..the organizer has done a fantastic job...the teams are improving..we can see new talented players,who deserve to play for da uni team. yeah...up to expectation....positioning currently at top 5 which is good...:D

shazli: as we all oredi know..DnC will become champions..congrats to them...runners-up boogies..as for my team,we are challenging for 3rd placing together with Chittapa and GM..so we'll play at our best and hope the result from chiitapa match will favor us..iALLAH
1on1: and for best player?
shazli: hehe, IMHO best player should be Avinesh..coz he is the top goal scorer in da league n becomes influential player in the team...hehe,avi jgn kembang arr :D

1on1: ur RFL's 'tokey video' kan.. so how was it working on the videos? kau mmg berminat atau terpaksa ke mcm mane? :D
shazli: its abit of both,actually...berminat dan terpaksa...berminat sbb nk blajar bab2 recording nih..terpaksa tu,sbb xde sape lg nk volunteer jadik videocam-man....as for next season,i dont know weather i'll carry on da duty or not..hehe:P
1on1: hahahha...nape x sure... dh serik ke??? slalu vids tu edit sorg ke kau ada anak2 buah lg?
shazli: i really enjoy doing da job..editing alone is not a problem...i just hope that theres volunteer especially juniors to help me (at the zal).coz im a player too!

1on1: next question; wutdya think of AL as RFL manager (<------ni percubaan membodek boss)
shazli: he's done a fantastic job throughout the season..highly commited in his job...theres no single fight among players in da field..(finger crossed for tomorrow :P).it shows how good he managed da league,really...worth mentioning he helps me alot,i mean alot during taking vids..guess we hv to find another manager for next season.any one?

1on1: last question. in ur opinion, how can we help in improving the football scene in Msia? i mean we always hear ppl saying that we have to get rid of internal politics, improve training and etc but that's up to the football clubs and the sports authority. how can we as a member of the public do our part in making a difference?
shazli: hurmm...firstly,we hv to support our M-league (boikot EPL ~woooo -joking-:P)..by going to the stadium.. beli jersey malaysia@club/negeri yg original..as for the players...take proper diet,not,hamburgers or nasi lemak...as u mentioned,go for training...be punctual n discpline....i think it'll improve not only the players..the quality of da game,bringing back da malaysian pride and so on..

1on1: before we end, do u have anything to say to COPA fans out there?
Shazli: thanks for supporting copa n RFL directly or indirectly..i hope u all will keep on supporting Copa :D ~hidup COPA!

when first approached by our reporter, Fairuz Anuar @ Bond was stunned by our request to interview him, who claims himself as a "kaki bangku". well, why not? RFL 1on1 thinks that there's no better way to get an insight on what's happening in the Bukit Tinggi court than through the eyes of someone who usually sits on the bench. and we assure you that this interview is everything but a cliche.

note: although we have to say that our reporter had some difficulty in sniffing through his philosopho-rethorical (made up this word just now. LOL) answers a.k.a his kepoyo-an. (Bond agrees with me on this fact).

Bond: ok. nama my futsal team is Bukit Tinggi, team bola baru. ada 10 orang ahli and my position: pemain simpanan. hahaha

bond: me? hmmm...takde

bond: hmmm... main rugby for fun

bond: setakat ini...team bukit tinggi masih dalam motivasi yang sangat tinggi untuk mencapai target utama penubuhan kelab

1on1: so masa tubuhkan BT ni, how far did u guys think u'd go? i mean other than top 12 :P
bond: pelbagai rangka latihan telah kami buat untuk menjamin tempat teratas dalam liga RFL. kami sangat positif dalam setiap perlawanan. memang kami telah menjangkakan top 12 tu target utama. top 3 would be a bonus to our futsal club

1on1: usually who decides who's gonna play for each match?
bond: setiap minggu akan ada rotation untuk dua orang pemain yang akan tidak bermain, ikut turutan. but our team coach, and manager is mate, and anol

1on1: u said that ur the pemain simpanan, so do u think it'd make any difference if let's say you were given more opportunity to play? or r u satisfied? :D
bond: hmmm...tricky question. basically... i tak berape pandai main bola... tapi pandai rembat bola on target dengan kuat. oleh yang demikian, aku diletakkan sebagai simpanan...hmmm... i dont think it would make any much different

1on1: so ur satisfied?
bond: pretty much yeah. all of us satisfied with our pencapaian setakat ini

1on1: will we b seeing BT in action again next season?
bond: yeah. bukit tinggi akan tetap listed dalam RFL untuk jangka masa beberape season akan datang. participitation is the a must for Bukit Tinggi

bond: semua player diberi peluang bermain dan bergembira ditengah padang disamping menjamin keutuhan perpaduan dan kasih sayang antara team member. dan bukit tinggi adalah futsal team yang paling optimis dan positif dalam setiap perlawanan tanpa mengambil kira stress yang diberikan oleh pihak lawan

bond: owh...semua pemain bukit tinggi berjiwa besar dan berpandangan jauh... dan setiap pemain mempunyai hak dan kuasa untuk mengeluarkan pendapat dan komen sebelum, semasa dan selepas permainan... so, tidak ada sorang pun yang bertindak berlebihan melebihi bidang kuasa yang diperuntukkan

1on1: what do u think of this RFL season? anything to improve? or perhaps we need more drama to spice things up :P
bond: hmmm...basically, takde ape sangat yang perlu di ubah. sebab bola je kot hahaha

1on1: do u think it's obligatory utk semua laki main bolasepak? like it's written in a "Bro Code" or something
bond: owh, no. its not. there's so many other things that a dude can do like camping, scuba diving, bla bla bla.. sports is not everything. that's my idea

1on1: so a 'kaki bangku' doesn't justify anything lah kan :D
bond: for me... its okay. life is just too beautiful to sakit hati sebab tak pandai main bola :)

1on1: k lah last q. what do u think of the quality of sportsmen/women in our uni? and what we'd have to do to win the intervarsity games?
bond: if our uni team tambah sikit extra positive attitute, and dream to achieve more, then, diorang dah boleh jadi international standard's quality. and we need more sports motivator
1on1: and by motivator you mean sape?
bond: anyone yang boleh bagi motivation for our player to practice and train better. anyone boleh jadi. mungkin you sendiri boleh

Alina: Who inspires you to start playing futsal?
Aaron: well..no1 actually..i just like playing football..and when i first arrived in moscow..there was no field soccer..so i started to get involved in futsal..i hope that answered ur question..

Alina: Could you introduce your team to us?
Aaron: well my team compromise of mostly 4th years with a mixture of 3rd n 1st years..there is agni,siva,prem,gajaen,pk,arugan,julian

Alina: how did you guys come up with your team's name?
Aaron: well..u would be suprised actually the team name was made up by an ex teammates of ours..rafiq.. we were tossing n turning over a few names..n he came up with..all of us liked it..n we stciked with it

Alina: ic... interesting.. hehe..what's the best RFL moment for you?
Aaron: wow..there a few which stands out to me..but the most memorable i guess would be last season where we held copa cobana to a draw..i thought evry1 played extremely well..we goin into the games as underdogs..no one would have expected tat result..so i guess that would be the best rfl moment 4 me..

Alina: cool...what do you like most about futsal?
Aaron: well..i believe tat futsal or sports bring people close..i mean i got to know a lot of ppl thru futsal..

Aaron: in the field we are all friends..even the tightest of enemies..in the end of the whistl the bond is there..something like tat

Alina: your interests other than futsal?
Aaron: other interest. mm..i like sports..all sports(bowling,badminton,swimming n etc)..music,movies..

Aaron: none actually..for music..as long as the beat,lyrics r nice..i'm fine with it...im not really into those heavy metal band noisy music..movies..i'm into all kind of genre..comedy,romance,thriller,action,horror,drama..u name it

Alina: In your experience as a player in the past, could you name a player in opponent's team, tht in your opinion have the best skills in scoring goals?
Aaron: can i name a few..but if u would 2 ask me to name one..wow its would very close..

Alina: please do..we dont mind
Aaron: oo..iqbal,lavan,avi,shafiq..to name a few..there are just so many skilled players out there..each having their own strengths..

Alina: Your prediction for this RFL season? Who do you need to watch out for?
Aaron: druncos r def the champions..n the team to beat next season..it goin to be a close race for the 2nd n 3rd posion..boogis,copa,gm n chittapa are very storng teams..so it would be interesting to c who comes up on top..not only is there competition at the top of the table..even the bottom half teams are close to one another..the key point on who will reign superior would b the last 2 games..its goin tobe an intense final 2 weeks..in my opinion..

Alina: pretty tense innit
Aaron: ya it is..i beleive evry year..each team have somewhat improve in 1 way or another..

Alina: Do you have any worse moment during the M2FC league in the past?
Aaron: ya..even in this season itself..the 1st incident would to have happen in the 1st rfl..where i was chilidish i believe..n out of anger..i kicked the wall..i felt like tat was one of the most unsportsmen like thing to do..the other worst moment was this season itself..whre we lost to copa cobana 9-2..n oso druncos..i performed badly behind the sticks..for me at the moment..it felt like evrything crumble..those i think would b the worse moments

Alina: Who do you see yourself in, in football and in life?
Aaron: in footbal..hopefully i would stil be somewhat playing the sports..if not everyweekends i would def be in my room watching the footballs games..s for in life..hopefully graduating,being able to be a good dr..

Alina: what about future plans? which area you're going to proceed during specialist?
Aaron: at the moment i think i would want to specialize in pediatrics..coz i love kids..

Alina: so what's your suggestion to improve the quality of futsal in RSMU?
Aaron: from what i believe..n wat i c..we have a lot of talented n skilled players in rsmu..put it this way..a good team need not comprimose of highly talented skilled players..its the communication,i cant recall the word..hmm..'gel'evryone in the team muz be comfortable with each other..

Alina: so..(ok..im thinking of a question..bear with me..winter holidays has been doin a lot of thought inhibition..LOL)
Aaron: haha..np..

Alina: so do you think that you guys have reached to the extend of being comfortable playing with each other? or is it something that need to be worked out well in future?
Aaron: i dont think we have reach that peak yet..i feel that saints fc are improving somewhat each game..there are a few bumps here n there which we need to sought out..hopefully this team..wil remain 2gete 4 next season..

Alina: what makes your team closer? is it the games or you guys are just really close from the start?
Aaron: oo..ok..well i've known agni since highschool actually..werent close but since bein in moscow..we got quite close..n he was the 1st person i actually approached about making the team..n we started to search for ppl..who we could get along with..then prem n siva came into the pic..n than the newbies..we searched high n low for replacements for players who had left our team..some of us are close off the filed..but in general i guess..we are all friends..even tho we all are from diff batch..tat 4 me is the magic of futsal..it bring ppl close together

Bugis: The face behind the name BOOGIS FC.

before we close the RFL curtain for the year 2008, 1on1 team decides to heat up the winter with exclusive interview with BOOGIS FC, one of the big names in the league. we all know that BOOGIS FC is named after one of its players so this week 1on1 took the liberty of sniffing through the professional and personal life of the face behind the name - Bugis.

1on1: why the name BOOGIS?

Bugis: hahaha. i knew this question would come up.

1on1: of course nak tau :D

Bugis: actually it started with Paan. he was looking for a team, and it turned out that all of his batchmates already formed a team. so we started discussing among us and got 8 people. time decide tu, banyak la nama yang keluar... sampailah Reez tulis kat paper nama "Boogis". tak terfikir la pulak kan. at that time we played to enjoy ourselves.

1on1: so bangga la dieorg ambik sempena nama kau? are you really a Bugis?

Bugis: bangga? takde la. i'm not the star of the team, unlike them. hehe. and i'm proud to be Melanau. aku bukan org bugis. ahaks.

1on1: lerrr... then mana dtg nama tu?

Bugis: cerita lama and panjang. one thing i know, my ears are already so used to being called Bugis.

1on1: well maybe we'll save the history of your name for next time. LOL.

1on1: so BFC is one of the feared teams in RFL. what do you think is in store for you guys in this season? i mean your prospects/expectations?

Bugis: when we started this season, we knew that many teams have improved, and we really tried our best to win the cup. but unfortunately, we ended up with a draw with Copa and lost to DNC. kalau ikut logic akal..memang xleh kot No. 1. but we'll try our best. kalau rezeki tahun ni, dapat la jadi champion. if not, maybe luck isn't on our side.

1on1: why did you say you won't be the champs. we know anything can happen in the league.

Bugis: yeah we really want the cup, but right now i'd say that the light is fading. hehe

1on1: who's your football role model?

Bugis: if you mean international player, it'd be Drogba. finishing dia sangat gempak. high percentage. if he gets the chance in front of the goal, then a goal it is.
if you mean the RFL players, of course none other than our striker, Reez. macam lipas kudung pun ada aku tengok. reminds me of Abg Sep dulu. sebijik.

1on1: what's the best RFL moment for you?

Bugis: banyak. every moment of RFL. but the best of all would be when we lost against Copa last season. that time, we were sure that we'd win the cup, but itu semua jadi harapan palsu bila kena tibai 4-1. ahaks.

1on1: okayyy. tak faham kenapa tu best moment?

Bugis: haha. entah la. i don't know why but time tu rasa macam happy. maybe because it was our first loss of the season. it's not that we got tired of winning, but nak gak rasa kekalahan.. barulah lumrah dunia, macam putaran roda. :))

1on1: adeiii. pelik la kau ni.

1on1: what do you like most about futsal?

Bugis: so many things. from futsal, we get to know many people from M2. futsal memang rapatkan silatulrahim. and teamwork. when you're pressured, ther'll always be someone to calm
things down.

1on1: your interests other than futsal?

Bugis: actually i only started to play futsal in 2005, after my SPM. before that i played basketball. i played basketball since i was in standard five.

1on1: mana lagi best.. futsal or basket?

Bugis: i like that question. kalau ada RBL (RSMU basketball league) i'd definitely join it. for me, baskteball is the best sport, because it's the sport i played since i was a kid.

Bugis: hehehe. hot memang hot. but compared to guys, it's more to fun. kalau guys main futsal, you can see the pressure, berkerut dahi. kalau tengok girls main, selang 2 minit sure gelak. ini pernyataan bukan kutukan, tetapi pujian.

1on1: interesting answer.

Bugis: dem, kena tembak rufflesia lah ni nanti. =_=

1on1: lagi soalan cepumas :D. certain people say that some guys don't like to be labeled as "cute", so they tend to grow on facial hair and stuffs. do you agree?

Bugis: tak tak tak~~~~

1on1: so do you consider yourself cute? :P

Bugis: wow. i didn't say anything. hahahah.

1on1: hahahaha. so what's your suggestion to improve the quality of futsal in RSMU?

Bugis: memang kena banyak training. fitness, passing etc. actually, futsal RSMU dah power, but taktau kenapa tak boleh dapat gold time Nizhny Games.

1on1: ok, i think i've bothered you enough with all these questions. hehehe. any last words to RFL fans out there?

ARUL KANESH is Painting it all Yellow with Chittapa FC

101: Who inspires you to start playing futsal?
Arul Kanesh: Hmm.. i started playing futsal only after i came to Moscow.. before that i was only playing field football.. actually my dad.. he's the one who inspires me..
101: Your dad plays football with you?
Arul Kanesh: Yeah.. when i was in primary school.. used to play with my dad.. dad was very active in sports that time.. he always supports me to do well in sports..

101: So tell me about your best moment in RFL.
Arul Kanesh: best moment in RFL surely when I won the first RFL 06/07 with Chittapa FC.. when we beat Pejuang Hamas 5-4... it will always be my favourite match ever..

101: You're Chittapa's team Captain right?
Arul Kanesh: Haha.. Yup...
101: So we heard you drilled your team into practising and more practising. Was it hard to get the team working together?

Arul Kanesh: Actually..it not hard to get them work together.. but the hard part is to find the guys that can gel together with each others.. once they gelled up, the rest will just follow in... actually.. its not only me...its the whole team.. Arul Botak, Brahma, Ganesan, Updesh, Sathiya, Thanes and Ganesh... i m very lucky to have them in my team..

101: That's good.
101: So we heard that Chittapa has this 'goalkeeper rotating policy' going on. What's your view on this?
Arul Kanesh: Yeah.. its been forever for Chittapa FC.. we never able to find a proper keeper for the team.. after a long fruitless search..we finally dediced to "rotate the keeper" as many of my guys can play goalkeeper..even me also... hehe.. those out thr, who are interested to be CFC's keeper..you're always welcomed.. heheh
101: tell us about your moto 'we wanna paint the town yellow'. and why yellow?
Arul Kanesh: i just change the " paint the town red" into yellow.. hehe and why yellow... 1st may be coz i like the yellow color.. i even had a yellow futsal shoe last time.. 2nd .. yellow is a auspicious color in Indian culture... hehe..
101: interesting.

101: What about rivalry. Do you guys have any of teams listed as 'most feared'?
Arul Kanesh: Rivalry... Hmm.. actually all the teams in the RFL tis year are very good teams.. all of them playing really well and improved .
Arul Kanesh: so..
Arul Kanesh: all the teams are kinda "feared"... but the "the most feared" will always goes to G-15.. our best rivalry team.. we miss them.. haha

101: Other than football, what are other things that you are passionate about?
Arul Kanesh: other than football... i m reli passionate with my future job.. i think being a doctor is something reli nice.. u get to relieve ppl from their pain... and create a smile in their face.. other then tat.. i have always be passionate with Taekwondo.. missing it alot nowadays..

101: any advice to those who want to be a talented footballer?
Arul Kanesh: i m not tat talented also..but if wanna be talented footballer.. one must put alot of effort and must be willing to learn from others.. and learn from his previous mistakes..

you might wanna ask, who's Faizal and Irsyad? their names might be foreign to most of our ears, because this Red Shark Brother Duo from Akula F.C. are better known to RSMU-ians as Palong and Busu. we from 1-on-1 decided to give this week's interview a bit of a twist; instead of just one-on-one interview, we bring to you the two Jumaat Brothers!

first Q to Busu: how did you end up being in Akula FC? Did Palong force you into the team?

Busu: Nope. Actually i love to play futsal. before the league i always play together with some friends at the sportzal. so when i heard about this futsal league, i became interested to participate. my brother was the one who put my name in Akula. he is my biggest supporter.

what's your experience in football/futsal?

Busu: actually i had no experience. before this i just played futsal for fun. it's like a dream come true, to be in the league.

Palong: experience.. masa PT kot. zaman sekolah dulu takde futsal lagi. ada gak main bola padang, tapi aku kaki bangku. haha.

how does it feel like, to have your own brother as a teammate?

Palong: best kot. Busu selalu stone je dalam bilik.. so aku ajak dia main futsal, and put him on the team.

Busu: haha. it is definitely cool. my bro's a good player, and i just wanna say that i love you bro.

wahhh. so as the captain, Palong tak buli kau ke Busu?

Busu: no la. he's a good and caring brother. like a "brother mithali". :)

so in turn, what do you have to say about Busu?

Palong: of course, i have to support my brother. adik beradik la katakan. busu ni pendiam, but he's very active. he even join debates. in futsal, he's ok.. same like me. maybe it's in our genes. hehe.

What's your best moment in RFL?

Palong: best moment? time jadi keeper Chipendale. rasa best gile kalau dapat save bola, tak kisah menang atau kalah.

tak terasa nak jadi keeper untuk season ni?

Palong: terasa gak. i think i'm most comfortable as a keeper coz i use my volleyball skills. maybe i'll be a reserve keeper, in case Nazmi got injured.

what do you think is the best thing about futsal?

Busu: friendship. it's like, in a team we work hard together to win. and the friendship becomes stronger and stronger each week and become a chemistry.

but Akula lost 3 out of 4 matches for the past four weeks. macam mana tu?

Palong: takpe.. i formed the team not to pressure my teammates. we all play for fun. main je..kalah pun takpe.

Busu: we play for fun. football isn't about winning. it's about satisfaction.

so are you satisfied for the past few weeks?

Busu: not really. but we are satisfied on our first win (against Bukit Tinggi FC).

as the captain, what are the changes that you think Akula has to do in the coming matches?

Palong: improve passing, strengthen our defense. kalau boleh rembat... rembat aje. mana tau, boleh gol.

1on1: Good morning Min Jie!
Min Jie Ong: Morning!
1on1: We're from the oneonone M2FC, we would like to ask you a few questions about yourself if you don't mind.
Min Jie Ong: Yeah, sure.

1on1: At what age you started playing football? or futsal?
Min Jie Ong: i remember i only started playing futsal occasionally during A level.

1on1: So you started playing as a team in RSMU?
Min Jie Ong: in RSMU, i oso played futsal sometimes during PT. i only started to play futsal regularly after i join gastroboi last season. I never know I will like futsal if qye(captain of gastro) never ask me to join them.

1on1: What is your best moment in M2FC?
Min Jie Ong: my best moment was last season when gastroboi played against saints. tat night all my groupmates they turn up at sportzal to support me. u know, they are not people who follow football or understand football. but tat night gastroboi got their very first 3 points and i got my first cleen sheet. it was great.

1on1: Do you have any worse moment during the M2FC league in the past?
Min Jie Ong: hmmm...at the end of last season, i was voted into the training for Nizhny games. however, i was not selected to the final squad. i really wish to go. i trained very hard but there are better players. i'm dissapointed to myself i'm not good enough to make it.
1on1: (awwh..but ure an awesome goalkeeper i heard..aim for volgo next yr!!)
Min Jie Ong: yea lo

Min Jie Ong: i will do my best and try again this year.

1on1: Can you tell me a little bit about your team's name ?
Min Jie Ong: the captain is vicky, strikers are abilash, harin...midfield is kay rezz, defenders are isaac, magesh and lingesh...goalkeeper is shugann
Min Jie Ong: i'm playing for le samba now, but i'm not permanent player for any team.
1on1: Why not be a permanent player?
Min Jie Ong: Last season i've had some wonderful experience in rfl with gastroboi. but i was not confident if i can maintain my performance. so i thought its better to quit now and keep the good memories. i never plan to play this season. then le samba's keeper shugann injured his hand, and they ask me if i can play for them until shugann is back.
Min Jie Ong: After few games played now, i think i can still contribute for the team.
Min Jie Ong: so after Shugann is back, i will play for any teams if they think i can help.
1on1: (i see..)

1on1: In your experience as a goalkeeper in the past, could you name in your opinion have the best skills in scoring goals.?(pls dont say beckham..i'll kill you..LOL)
Min Jie Ong: beckham
1on1: LOL.
Min Jie Ong: in RFL, i think Iqbal and Thiva have the best skills in scoring goals. i like them bcoz both of they are liverpool supporters hahaha. both of them are fast and clinical in front of goal.
Min Jie Ong: Thiva is strong and Iqbal's final touch on the ball is very classy
Min Jie Ong: they never waste chance, always manage to get the killer touch.

1on1: Do you have any specific hope for Le Samba? Or any future plans in sport?
Min Jie Ong: although i'm just playing temporarily for samba, i will give my 110% in every match and hopefully can finish in a higher position this season. of my own plan in sport, yan just invited me this morning to a try out for handball team. i will do my best. but my main wish is still to squeeze in the futsal team, which i fail to do so last yr. lets see how.

1on1: Your prediction for this RFL season? Who do you need to watch out for?
Min Jie Ong: personally i think Boogis and Dru n Cos are the favourites to finish top in rfl.
Min Jie Ong: in other position of the table

seeing how good he is in futsal, it's hard to believe that this guy only started playing futsal (only for fun, as he put it) when he's in RSMU. the Tae Kwon Do black belt holder chose martial arts over football in school, following his dad's suggestion to focus only in one arena of sports. call him a late-bloomer, but he's emerged as one of the most admired players in the league, and was honoured the title of Top Scorer for last season's RFL. this week, we'll go one-on-one with GM's Afiq Rushdi.

Tell us about your best moment in futsal.

maybe last season. alhamdulillah, we didn't plan on it but GM won three titles: 2nd runner-up, Best Player (Puyi) and Top Scorer (Myself). kami hanya buat yang terbaik. buat apa saja, biar sehabis baik!~

What about your worst moment?

it was the time when i tried out to be in the team for intervarsity games when i was in my 2nd and 3rd year but i was not selected. and last year when i represented RSMU for the intervarsity games in Nizhny, we had a good chance of winning but luck wasn't on our side. but i believe that things always happen for a reason, so no worries.

so based on your experience in the RSMU team and judging from performances of RFL teams this season, do you think we'd have a strong team for the upcoming Intervarsity Games?

yes, definitely. based on performances of the players and teams this season, i think we have a high chance of winning gold. especially when you look at teams like DNC, i think they have very good players to represent our uni.

now let's focus on you. apa rahsia untuk jadi top scorer?

haha. no secrets. the most important thing is teamwork. dalam satu pasukan, tanpa persefahaman dan teamwork, kita takkan dapat cipta peluang untuk score. so, teamwork + chemistry = goal opportunity.

and as a striker, ada 3 perkara penting: 1) pandai cari ruang; 2) bertenang; 3) kawalan bola di hadapan gawang gol.

on GM's blog you mentioned that your favorite player is yourself. why?

actually it's more for a self-motivational purpose. it's a way to motivate myself to do the best. for example for last year's Fantasy Futsal i wrote my own name in all of my Dream Teams. it's a good self-motivator because it drove me to work harder to score goals, and get points for my Dream Team. at the end of the season, i won second place, just one point short of being number one.

can you elaborate a bit on GM's tagline "berdakwah sambil bersukan"?

as you all know, before GM, we were called TSP (Team Seluar Panjang). we wanted to portray the image of muslim sportsmen, and show (muslim) players in the league that we can still be one of the best while covering our aurat.

and how do you react when people dub GM as "Geng Married"?

haha. itu hanyalah tanggapan semata-mata. coincidentally, we have 4 married players in the team (Akmal, Fakhrul, Awe, Anep). pendek kata, itu hanyalah kebetulan. there are others in the team who's available too, you know.

haha. so are you?

i'm always available.

how far do you think GM will go this season?

based on the last few match (GM lost twice in two matches), i'd say that there's some changes that need to be done. we need more trainings together because this year we have a few new players so we need to build on the chemistry.

as for prospects, we don't put our hopes too high, but we'll do our best. kalau dapat Top 3, alhamdulillah. we promise to do our best. paling penting, niat dan tujuan asal kami (untuk menjadi contoh dalam tatacara sukan muslim) tercapai.

do you have anything more to say to our readers before we end the interview?

to all players, play well and enjoy yourselves. buat apa sahaja, biar sehabis baik!

Dru N Cos: It's all about having fun.

He started playing football at the age of 9 as a defender. When he was 12 years old he started scoring goals and found his best self at the striker position. Known to friends for his friendly nature, when he's not kicking the ball, he woos girls (and guys) with his smooth dance moves (remember MASSAD?). His face lights up when he speaks about football, which showed his great passion for the game. This week, RFL One-on-One brings to you Dru N Cos' Thiva, who was all dressed-up in his Liverpool gear for this exclusive interview!

What was your best futsal moment?

There's too many but one of the best would definitely be Dru N Cos. It's everything I dream a team would be; it's all about the chemistry, and there's no pressure to win a game because we're all friends and hangout buddies who enjoy football very much.

Another good moment would be when I scored a goal against Pejuang Hamas in the finals. And being with G-15. Those were great moments.

Your worst futsal moment was..

I guess the worst moment was when Maro got injured last year. That was really unexpected.

Speaking of injury, what's the worst injury you had?

I was playing for Chittapa against G-15, and I just fell on myself and sprained my ankle. I could not walk for one whole week, or play for 3 months.

What's your strength in futsal?

Dru N Cos. Our motto is to have fun on court, and we take one team at a time. We just make each other play better. Dru N Cos is the perfect futsal team for me.

I'm always nervous in a game but once I get the ball, I make the decisions and everything happens from there. It's all about decision-making.

What do you think is your weakness?

There's way too many, there won't be enough time to name it all. I'm always excited and get carried away very easily, and I'm easily influenced by all sorts of things.

Who do you see yourself in, in football and in life?

Do I really have to answer this?

Ok, in football, Fernando Torres. He's my football role-model.

In life, I really admire and look up to Will Smith's character in The Pursuit of Happyness; the way he went through all the obstacles, and inspired people. That's who I want to be.

Your opinion on Malaysian football scene?

Today's football is no longer just about training. It's about the technology, down to the microscopical level, the tiniest fiber. You know, like how Liverpool players are asked to stand in an ice bath after matches. It's all in the technology nowadays.

I think we have good players, but we need to start training them early in childhood. Good food, get rid of internal politics, give more international exposure and foreign coaches. I think foreign players are good for our local scene, because when we play with good players, we'll become good players ourselves. Just like the EPL, it's like the whole world is playing in it.

Your prediction for this RFL season? Who do you need to watch out for?

Definitely Boogis. And also Chittapa. Actually we have very decent teams in the league this season. So we'd have to watch out for everyone. It's going to be a tough but at the same time a great season. But as i said, Dru N Cos is all about having fun, and we'll take on one team at a time.

This RFL season we’ve decided to spice things up with a weekly series of exclusive one-on-one interviews with selected players from RFL teams.

To kick off this week, RFL one-on-one brings to you one of the most celebrated players from last season. The Fantasy Futsal League 07/08 “Dream Team Goalkeeper”, also dubbed as “The Flying Java”, Gastroboi’s Dinie Tumaisuri speaks to us about futsal, and more.

1. Who are your favourite players for a perfect team?

2. What are the best moments and worst moment so far you had experience in playing football/futsal?
The best was when I had a clean sheet in the last season of RFL until Hari scored a goal against Copa Cobana in the 7th week.
I had also trained under the Malaysian Football Keeper during my high school in the Under 18 and the Coca Cola team.
Besides, ‘Flying Java’ nick had become more popular among friends after saving shots from Mate and Iqbal.
Worst moment would have been of course when Hari scored THAT goal and the whole sportzal was cheering hysterically for him!

3. What is your strength?
I had the obsession of being a goal keeper since I was a little kid. Encouragement from family and fans leads me to be a better player and having a pair of good gloves definitely gives me the confidence to catch the ball.
Being a goal keeper isn’t about skill, but the endurance to do anything to save the ball and a good and understanding team mates puts me in a best position.

4. What is your weakness?
Easy. Sheila. (big grin)

5. What are your hopes and targets for the league, or even in the future?
Since I had an injury at my finger, I have decided to rest for the mean time. Definitely, I am still looking forward to play for the GK position in any other big tournament. I prefer to be a goalkeeper with passion and not easily dispirited in a game.

6. Last question, what is the most spent item and you regret it?
Well, I bought a pair of shoe that cost me almost RM300 and I only wore it once.
Maybe it’s because of the unplanned shopping!
